Located on a 11.8 ha site in Ampang Hilir, the new campus for the International School of Kuala Lumpur will be an opportunity to bring all three parts of ISKL (elementary, middle and high school) back together again in one location in a new space fully appropriate to the school’s unique identity. With a built up area of almost 95,000 sm, the new school will accommodate 2,000 students with provision to expand to 2,500 students in the future.

The program includes a performing arts centre adjacent to the music, arts and drama departments, two separate gyms, two swimming pools (50 m and 25 m), 3 football fields, a running track, tennis and badminton courts, student activity spaces, cafeterias and science labs. The various parts of the school are linked by a curvilinear “spine” that links the public private areas of the campus. The heart of the school is the central plaza and the performing arts centre - a performance, gallery and gathering space - where the school community can come together. ISKL approaches sustainability in a holistic manner, addressing all issues such as energy efficiency, materials, resources, indoor environment quality, waste disposal, transportation energy, building services and water efficiency. The school is thus a sustainability exemplar both for the region and the world, having obtained a GBI Platinum rating of 90 points making it the “greenest” school in Malaysia.

Client : Universiti Teknologi Petronas Sdn Bhd
Petronas University is a new centre for tertiary education in central Malaysia. The University caters to 7000 students and the project comprises the construction of academic buildings, student residences and sports/leisure facilities. The university occupies a 90 hectare site and is arranged in a campus style. Landscape is a key element and used with built form to create and define open spaces and linkages. A series of ornamental lakes have been established in relation to old tin mining ponds and a grand boulevard provides a dramatic route to the university buildings. Swathes of new tree planting help to define the parkland structure and will create welcome shade for a network of footpaths between buildings and facilities.

The National Sports Complex is a major integrated development comprising world class sports buildings and designed to cater for a wide range of sports and other events. It provides facilities of an international standard that will be an inspiration to Malaysian's sportsmen and sportswomen to excel at world class standards. The central area of the National Sports Complex is composed of three primary sports buildings.

These include the 100,000 seat National Stadium, the National Aquatic Centre and Putra Stadium, a multi-use indoor stadium. Each building has been designed and constructed to internationally recognized standards and incorporates the latest in technological innovation and advanced sports equipment. The National Sports Complex buildings and facilities nestle within a beautifully landscaped setting. The main feature of this landscape are spacious public plazas and covered walkways, dramatic water features, striking sculpture, stately avenues of shade trees and sweeping beds of colourful shrubs. 

Client : Maju Institute for Education Development 
The Asian Institute of Medicine, Science and Technology locate in Kedah is a new purpose built university catering to 6000 students. VERITAS Landscape worked with the architects to prepare a masterplan for a campus style university where parkland would be used to provide a strong image and a beautiful environment in which students live and study. The university occupies a 90 hectare site with wooded hills to the north providing an attractive backdrop. A stately boulevard links the main road with the university core and provides a serene drive past new lakes, sports fields, lawns and a mosque.

The landscape is essentially to provide the backdrop for both the Parcel C2S and C3S set in extensive areas of lake and woodland with simple elegant sweeping lawns. The qualities that needs to exclude are those of calmness, elegance, dignity and timelessness; contemplative and pure. It sets the visitor experience well before the main administration buildings are reached and the landscape scheme, therefore, needs to positively and unambiguously project the unique Johor-Malay culture quality.

Marlborough College Malaysia is the first Malaysian subsidiary of the long-established private school in Wiltshire, United Kingdom. This is the first in Malaysia and it combines a broad range of arts and sports facilities interwoven into architecture fabric of the sprawling campus. The landscape focuses on the development of a lush ‘campus-style’ parkland that connects the interior and exterior spaces. The modernist strand of thought runs through the selection of plant species with an architectural character strong enough to withstand the particular standards of abstraction that a minimal landscape calls for. The proposed landscape forms the connective tissue between the assemblage of buildings, in the form of tree-lined avenues, with the relationship between the scale of the trees and the width of the walkway taken into sensitive consideration.

Trees with wider canopies are proposed where dense foliage is required. These natural features are bound within the diagram campus’s avenues and geometric courtyards with axial sightlines to bring the user’s attention to the surrounding areas, ensuring full integration with the surrounding land uses, pedestrian functions and riverside area of the development. A comprehensive network of pedestrian friendly and barrier free footpaths maximizing visual opportunities by accentuating viewing corridors from inside-out, emphasizing natural and man-made features which in turn create a sense of constantly new vistas from outside looking in. These strategies combine to create a strong sense of place and a landscape that is practical to maintain and aesthetically pleasing to stroll through.
