Lillian Tay trained as a civil engineer and architect at Princeton University, USA, where she obtained her B.Sc Engineering and Master of Architecture in 1990. She worked at Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates in New York prior to returning home to Kuala Lumpur. Lillian has been a Principal of VERITAS since 1995 and currently Vice President of VERITAS Design Group.

Besides leading many key projects, Lillian oversees general design direction at VERITAS Architects. Beyond professional practice, Lillian is involved in professional development activities, education, exhibitions and publications. She was Deputy President of the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) in 2015. Currently Lillian is the Vice President of the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) for the years 2017-2019.

Lillian has written on architecture in Malaysia for Architecture Malaysia, the official journal of PAM, where she is presently Editor-in-chief. During her tenure as the Vice President of the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) in 2000-01, she produced and curated a retrospective of Malaysian architecture at the Galeri Petronas entitled 80 Years of Architecture in Malaysia. She had also curated a photography exhibition at the National Art Gallery entitled Confluence – A Portrait of Kuala Lumpur, which documented the disappearing physical and social landscape of the city.

A Council Member of the Heritage Trust of Malaysia (Badan Warisan Malaysia) since 2002, Lillian advocates the conservation of urban architectural heritage particularly in Kuala Lumpur. Lillian has spoken frequently on topics related to architecture and urbanism.

She is presently on the University Malaya Research Advisory Committee (UMRAC).
